Hugo Gernsback

[EN] The Hugo Award winners have just be announced. The annual prize is named after Hugo Gernsback, author, editor, inventor and the coiner of the term Scientifiction. Know more about Gernsback in Hugo Gernsback: Father of the Future an excelent post on the blog Worlds in a Grain of Sand.

Gernsback also lends his name to the short story The Gernsback Continuum by William Gibson, published on his anthology Burning Chrome.

Cyberpunk Magritte: Les Amants

[EN] While shooting the footage to present at the You Must Unconditionally Surrender video performance at INVISIBILIDADES III the iconical paintings titled Les Amants (The Lovers) painted by belgian surrealist artist René Magritte came to my mind. There are two similar paintings sharing the name. Both depicting a couple with their heads wrapped in grey fabric. A post-modern cyberpunk contaminated remake of Les Amants could feature gas masks insteads of grey clothes. That's how the photography below was conceived.

[PT-BR] Enquanto gravava vídeos para exibir na videoperformance You Must Unconditionally Surrender no encontro INVISIBILIDADES III no Itaú Cultural, as icônicas pinturas batizadas de Les Amants (Os Amantes) do pintor surrealista belga René Magritte me veio à mente. Há dois quadros similares, compartilhando o mesmo nome. Ambos representando um casal com suas cabeças envoltas num tecido cinzento. Uma releitura pós-moderna, contaminada pelo imaginário poderia incluir máscaras de gás no lugar dos panos cinzentos. Foi assim que nasceu a fotografia abaixo.
